Iconic English Premier League team Southampton announced on Tuesday that Serbian magnate Dragan Solak became the new owner of the institution after acquiring the majority of the shares that were in the hands of another Chinese businessman.

The purchase that was closed for a value of $ 169.3 million, according to “SKY News”, was carried out by the investment fund Sport Republic, which also belongs to Solak, which is also known as a benchmark for cable television in its country.

It should be noted that the previous majority shareholder was the Chinese businessman Gao Jinsheng, who had 80% of them since 2017. For his part, businesswoman Katharina Liebherr, will remain as a minority shareholder, This is what the English club stressed in a statement.

Southampton were looking for a new partner to boost the financing of the team until today he has managed to find “the perfect solution”, as indicated by the team advisor, Martin Semmens.

“Sport Republic are seasoned investors, but they also have experience in the world of elite professional sports. That is a very difficult combination to find, and we are delighted to have reached an agreement that ensures our future in the short and long term, ”he said.

According to the new majority partner Solak, one of the things that led him to want to buy from Southampton is that it brings together “many of the qualities we were looking for in a great sports organization”.

“It has a great management team, excellent talent development, talented teams that play attractive football, and a dedicated fan base (…) We are delighted to be able to complete this purchase as a first step towards executing our investment strategy.. Southampton will be the pillar of the organization we plan to build ”, he declared.

Nowadays the south of England team is ranked 14th in the Premier League with 21 points, the product of four victories, nine draws and six defeats.
