Honduras only called up players from the local tournament to face Colombia

The coach of the Honduras national team, the Colombian Hernán Darío Gómez, summoned 18 players this Friday for the friendly match on January 16 against Colombia in the American city of Fort Lauderdale.

The National Autonomous Football Federation (Fenafuth) reported that among those called by Gómez, who is still on vacation in Colombia, There is no player who plays for foreign teams.

The selector of Los “catrachos” will begin a micro-cycle of preparation starting next Monday before traveling to the United States.

After eight Concacaf octagonal matches played in 2021, Honduras closed in last place with three points, balance of three draws and five defeats.

Gómez is the fourth Colombian coach to lead Honduras, from the qualifying rounds for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, then with Reinaldo Rueda, current Colombia coach, who was followed by Luis Fernández Suárez, for Brazil 2014.

The third was Jorge Luis Pinto, who could not take the Hondurans to Russia 2018, as Rueda did to South Africa 2010 and Suárez to Brazil 2014.
