Man Killed, Woman Injured After Cleveland Apartment Fire

It was the second fatal fire treated by Cleveland firefighters in less than 24 hours.

A fire broke out in an apartment in Cleveland, Ohio, this Sunday morning, causing the death of a man, while an elderly woman was injured.

The Cleveland Fire Department detailed from its Twitter account that the fire broke out in a high-rise apartment building in Riverview Tower, which is operated by the Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA).

They noted that a man was found dead in the fire, while a woman was taken to the Lutheran General Hospital of the Cleveland Clinic, located across the street for treatment. The authorities said through a tweet that the woman is in stable condition, reported

“We have thoughts and prayers for the families involved in this tragic event this morning,” stated Fire Chief Angelo Calvillo.

He added that to face the flames, More than 10 trucks were used and 50 firefighters responded to the fire alarm.

For his part, Andrés González, police chief of the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority, offered statements to 19 News regretting the facts.

“The CMHA community was deeply saddened by the loss of a life in a fire at Riverview Tower early in the morning. We want to thank the Cleveland Fire Department and first responders for their rapid response to the fire and their continued work, ”said Gonzalez.

Until now, the identity of the deceased man has not been published, nor that of the resident who was injured by the flamesthe authorities stressed.

It is the second fatal fire that Cleveland firefighters have attended in less than 24 hours, as on Saturday around 5:00 pm, rescuers were called for a fire in a house located in a neighborhood southeast of the city.
