In a joint statement, the Recording Academy and the CBS channel announced that the 2022 Grammy Awards were postponed due to the growing tidal wave of Covid-19 cases throughout the country that have increased considerably due to the omicron variant.
According to the report, it was explained that they made that decision after considering it “carefully” and analyzing it with health officials.
“The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience and hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority,” the organizers stated.
The most important event in music was scheduled to be held on January 31, however, it will be set for a new date, yet to be determined: “Given the uncertainty surrounding the omicron variant, holding the gala simply involves too many risks”, they added.
The new date could be late March or early April, but the Academy says it will be announced soon.
The different international awards had a break this year and thanks to the new normal, they were able to return to their face-to-face formats, however, they did not count on the fact that the pandemic would surprise them with the emergence of a new problem: omicron.
In March 2021, the Grammys held a gala without all the artists united in the same venue due to the pandemic. Many of the guests were not in person at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, the usual venue for the great music festival for years.
Nominations for the awards were announced on November 23. The artist with the most nominations is Jon Batiste, who appears in 11 categories, followed by Justin Bieber and Doja Cat with eight, while HER, Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo had seven.
As an attraction for the audience, they will face one of the most notorious feuds: Taylor Swift and Kanye West, who will compete for the ‘Album of the Year’ award.
