VIDEO: At least 13 dead, including several children, in fire in Philadelphia

At least 13 people, including seven children, died in a fire that swept through a building in Philadelphia, fire officials said.

“This is without a doubt one of the most tragic days in our city’s history,” said Mayor Jim Kenney.

At a news conference, First Deputy Fire Commissioner Craig Murphy said that the building, operated by the Philadelphia Housing Authority, had several working smoke detectors on its last inspection.

However, he acknowledged that several were not working at the time of the fire.

Authorities have not yet determined the source of the fire or how the smoke detectors failed.

A video taken from a firefighter’s helmet camera went viral.
