A Mississippi police officer had the worst surprise of her life when she answered a call about a shooting report and find your dead son lying in the street, with a gunshot wound to the head.
Officer Laquandia Cooley, 42, of the Hazlehurst Police Department, was on the night shift last Sunday when rGot a call about a body on Larkin Street around 2am, which led to the horrible discovery.
The woman told the WLBT station that when answering the call she did not know that the person who was going to be lying there was his son.
When Cooley arrived at the site, his son, Charles Stewart Jr, 20, had already died of his injuries.
“When we went out, I looked and thought:” This is my son, this is my son Cooley recounted. “So he literally just collapsed … Like, why? Who would do this to my son?” The officer explained.
“Someone killed our baby”
Cooley added that he couldn’t believe he was seeing his own son lying on the ground dead. “It was more of a panic. It was just, it was too much, “he said.
The officer called the father of her son and said: “Someone killed our baby.”
The young man’s father said that his son was liked by everyone, and the family does not know who would do that to him.
Charles Stewart Jr is survived by his parents, an older sister, who had just turned 22 last week, and a 17-year-old brother.
Darian Murray, Hazlehurst Police Chief, reported that because the homicide involves a member of an officer’s family, the case will be turned over to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
