The Cochise County Police Department in Arizona reported the arrest of a couple, which would have been arrested after verifying that They had abandoned their 11-year-old son, who was left home alone for a couple of weeks.
The arrest of this couple took place last week when they were returning to their home, located in the town of Elfrida, about 100 miles southeast of Tucson. According to the authorities, the first to leave home was the mother, who left before Thanksgiving Day; the father would have left the house a couple of days later.
Police officers visited the house on December 12 after receiving a phone call from a person who reported that the boy had most likely been alone at home for several days, discovering that this was true.
The agents tried to contact the parents but when they could not locate them, the minor was placed in temporary custody.
The boy indicated that he managed to survive all those days just because there was a lot of frozen food in his refrigerator and that he had to be absent from school all that time.
The 34-year-old mother and 40-year-old father were indicted on child neglect charges, county police said. Both remained incarcerated Tuesday, according to online prison records.
