Hispanic who killed 3 people in Los Angeles for drunk driving is sentenced to 24 years in prison

A Hispanic was sentenced this Wednesday to 24 years in jail for causing an accident while driving drunk., killing two young children and their father and seriously injuring another child in 2018 in Los Angeles.

Jose Manuel GarciaThe 34-year-old did not object last December to the three counts of murder in the second degree and one count of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs causing injury, for which he was sentenced today to 24 years in prison.

The accident occurred on April 28, 2018 when Garcia ran a red light at the intersection of South Hoover and West 76th streets in South Los Angeles and struck a minivan that was transporting a family of five.

The minivan burst into flames and Juan Reynoso, 34, died at the scene, as did two of his children: Sebastián, 5 months old, and Emma, ​​7 years old.

Reynoso’s wife, Elizabeth Florez, and their 9-year-old son, Julián, survived the accident. The youngest child suffered severe burns and underwent numerous surgical procedures since then, MyNewsLA reported today.

The family was returning from a birthday party and was only a block from their home when the mishap happened.

Garcia had a prior conviction for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in 2011. The Hispanic was arrested by agents of the Los Angeles Police Department the night of the accident, and has remained in jail ever since.
