Two young men from Texas are behind bars for causing the death of their stepfather, whom they brutally beaten and later left the body in a field, after his 9-year-old sister, daughter of the deceased, accused him of sexual assault.
The detainees are Alexandro and Christian Treviño, 18 and 17 years old, in addition to Juan Eduardo Meléndez, 18, for the alleged murder of Gabriel Quintanilla, 42, Weslaco ABC affiliate KRGV reported.
Last Thursday afternoon, officers from the Pharr Police Department responded to a 911 call from a farmer who told the operator that he had discovered the body of a deceased man in one of his fields.
According to the McAllen, Texas, newspaper The Monitor, the man was identified as Gabriel Quintanilla, who had a court order for continuous sexual abuse of a child and battery.
Phar police said in a news release that Quintanilla’s 9-year-old daughter, whose name was not released, sparked a “protest” after claiming the man inappropriately touched her at a trailer park about 15 minutes away. east of McAllen. The girl allegedly told Alexandro and Christian about the alleged inappropriate contact.
“When the brothers Alexandro and Christian Treviño found out, they became enraged and confronted Gabriel Quintanilla In the residence. A physical fight ensued between the three and victim Quintanilla left the scene on foot,” the press release stated.
The police said that Christian chased Quintanilla on foot in front of an apartment complex on the street where a second assault took place when Alexandro Treviño and a driver of a red Dodge Charger, Juan Eduardo Meléndez, caught up with him and joined the assault on the man.
The three accused would have left the scene of the second assault in Melendez’s car. They then changed vehicles and returned to the scene in a Ford F-150 pickup where they found an injured Quintanilla walking and assaulted him for the third and final time.
After the brutal beating, they moved the man on the flatbed of the truck and dumped him in an open field in the area of McColl and Whalen Road, they subsequently fled.
Investigators in the case believe the suspects used brass knuckles to repeatedly punch Quintanilla in the facea, resulting in severe head trauma that ultimately led to his death. However, police believe that Quintanilla was still alive when he was abandoned in the field.
After being processed on Sunday, Christian and Meléndez each face one count of capital murder, aggravated assault/family violence and participation in organized criminal activity.
Alexandro, who authorities say is not accused of inflicting the fatal blows on Quintanilla, He was charged with aggravated assault and participation in organized criminal activity.
